Ohio State head football coach Ryan Day has a friend in Nick Saban.

During a snowy episode of College GameDay in South Bend ahead of Indiana-Notre Dame , Saban defended Day from criticism and insulted those spreading negative noise online.

Saban shared what hed tell his Alabama players in a humorous but biting moment.

He also blamed Buckeye fans for why theres no momentum towards beating Michigan in The Game.

Why do you care about what some guy puts on the internet, who's a fat guy in his underwear living in his mother's basement? Saban recalled saying during his coaching days.

If Ohio State wants to beat Michigan, [the fans] need to be positive about the coach and the players.

There's nobody who wants to beat them worse than the players and the coaches.

That's number one.

Number two, they have an opportunity to win the national championship.

Everybody ought to be supporting the hell out of them so they have the best opportunity to do it and quit all this negative bulls.

Saban dealt with one of the more polarizing fanbases in sports.

He inflated the expectations in Tuscaloosa to an impossible degree and even laid the groundwork for the criticism Day gets these days.

That was Josh Pates thought , anyway.

I think Nick Saban ruined this game for a lot of you, Pate said on an October episode Late Kick.

Because a lot of you watched what Saban did at Alabama and that became your standard.

You think thats supposed to be real? Thats supposed to be obtainable? What Saban did at Alabama is not supposed to happen.

Sounds convincing enough in this situation.

Ohio State hasnt beaten Michigan but made the four-team College Football Playoff three times under Day.

Four trips to the CFP in six seasons usually save one from the level of scrutiny Day faces.

Saban is just looking out for his counterpart from the 2020/2021 College Football Playoff National Championship Game..
